The Healing Power of Sound and Music
Healing with the use of music and sound is not a new concept. In fact, since time immemorial, different cultures from all over the world have used music to heal, empower and soothe the body, spirit and mind.
Studies have shown that music can help slow down and balance a person’s brain waves. Sounds and music can also reduce one’s stress and tension by affecting his endorphin levels. Music can even evoke feelings of inner peace and love. However, music and sounds can also have an opposite effect. Rather than slowing down one’s body rhythms and helping him relax, a well-chosen set of sounds and music can help one to become more energized, determined and even creative. Studies also show that people and athletes who perform their physical fitness work out and sport practices with music burn more calories, use more energy and even stretch themselves further than those who work out without music.
Although music and sounds can help a person relax, feel better and achieve inner peace, science and researches are still far too early in the studies for anyone to be able to tell which sound and music selections can heal a specific medical condition or improve one’s health.
